R v M., unreported, May 25, 2020, Alberta Prov. Ct., Leduc: impaired driving - sentencing for second DUI offence – previous conviction in 2016 – minimum sentence normally includes jail – negotiated resolution: $3900 fine, six months’ probation, three-year driving prohibition with interlock in three months.
R. v. O., unreported, May 20, 2020, Alberta Prov. Ct., Leduc: assault with a weapon – domestic assault –-alleged that accused husband threw object at wife – defence supplies written proof of rehabilitation - Crown stays charge before entry of plea.
R v P., unreported, April 23, 2020, Edmonton Prov. Ct.: impaired driving – defective certificate of analyses – Crown stays charges before trial date.
R v A., unreported, June 30, 2020, Edmonton Prov. Ct: two separate sets of charges of attempted robbery and robbery, breach of recognizance - assault with a weapon – fail to comply with recognizance - sentencing – following negotiations, guilty pleas to assault-related offences – sentence: time served.
R v D., unreported, May 2020, Edmonton Prov. Ct: public mischief – allegation of making false complaint to police – accused is spouse of male driver who gets involved in motor vehicle accident – alleged that husband gets friend to falsely tell police that friend was driving, and, that wife falsely reported the vehicle stolen - Crown stays charge prior to trial.
R v R., unreported, Dec. 10, 2019, Alta. Court of Appeal: cocaine trafficking – sentence – unrepresented accused with Metis ancestry receives probation following guilty pleas in Court of Queen’s Bench – trial proceedings were lengthy – Crown appeals seeking increase of sentence to at least 12-15 months’ jail – in an unreported judgment, Alberta Court of Appeal rules that sentence was unfit but dismisses Crown appeal – original sentence maintained.
